On May 6, the litigation filed by China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) to Guangxi Provincial Wildlife Rescue Center and the Department of Forestry of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region for malpractices in pangolin rescue was tried in Nanning, Guangxi. This is the first public interest litigation on pangolin conservation in China. We will publish the representations of the litigation.
“Over the past years, the defendant has never successfully rescued one pangolin. In comparison with the high rate of successful rescue in South Africa, Vietnam, and Taiwan, it’s ridiculous to pass the buck to the differences in institutions. China has an advanced institution, and the government provides adequate expenditure and talents on the rescue. So, what the problem? The only problem lies in the defendant itself! We hold zero tolerance to any similar illegal activities to discredit the institution!”
