After the Community Conservation Area for #RelicGull at #Tianjin were seriously disrupted by people digging clams this month, the CBCGDF took immediate actions.

We have sent staff and volunteers to frontier to stop clams-picking crowds, persuading them to leave those food resources to those endangered #birds. We have also appealled to China’s State Forestry Administration and Ministry of Ecology and Environment, asking their support and investigation. We asked the TikTok APP to stop spreading messages encouraging people driving there to have “a fun experience”. Signages and posters have been erected in the sites by our team.

Yet, here’s a serious question we raised: Shall conservation focuses on saving species, or demarcating Protected Areas? In our practice, it’s too usual to see that key habitats for endangered species are not protected by Governmental PA system; conservation always yield to economic development in decision-making and planning; On the contrary, those less-valuable places are more likely to be zoned as PAs. …. Like this #CCAfa, it’s critical for Relic Gulls, with >90% of its population wintering in the past years.

Dear friends, what’s your opinion on this question?
