On September 24, China Chamber of International Commerce and China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation（CBCGDF）jointly hosted the “Chamber of Commerce lecture hall” and “green development and carbon neutralization international lecture hall phase II”, inviting the director of the Working Committee on atmospheric governance and low carbon development of CBCGDF and president of the International China Environment Foundation (IFCE) Dr. He Ping, and Kelly Shi, international expert in the field of carbon neutralization appointed by the Working Committee on atmospheric governance and low carbon development of CBCGDF to hold discussions and exchanges with delegates on topics such as “interpretation of China’s dual carbon policy and its impact on enterprises”, “ability and elements to achieve carbon neutralization goals and international and domestic practices – Case Analysis”. The lecture was broadcast live on the financial media platform of CBCGDF, with more than 5000 online participants.
In his report, Dr. He Ping explained the development background of China’’s carbon neutralization process and the evolution process of China’s carbon peak and carbon neutralization goal. He pointed out that achieving carbon neutrality is the demand for the development of ecological civilization, the construction of a sustainable energy system, the responsibility of major countries and international integration.
Dr. He Ping explained in detail the impact and role of carbon emissions on GDP, economic and industrial structure, energy structure and energy efficiency. What challenges will China face in realizing carbon neutrality? In the context of meeting the challenges, how to accurately crack the realization path of carbon neutralization? What impact will carbon neutralization bring to Chinese industries and enterprises? Dr. He Ping expounded on his thoughts in his report.
In her report, Ms. Kelly Shi first introduced how the world’s top 500 enterprises respond to climate change. She analyzed the basic ways for the world’s top 500 enterprises to deal with climate change by conducting carbon baseline inventory: determining the fundamentals of carbon emissions and existing data reports, formulating emission reduction targets according to the emissions of scope I and scope II, measuring the emissions of scope III, formulating corresponding emission reduction targets, designing emission reduction measures, etc.
Kelly Shi also made an in-depth analysis of the enterprise’s ability and elements to achieve the goals of “carbon peak” and “carbon neutralization”in the report. She proposed that realizing “carbon peak” and “carbon neutralization”is a comprehensive and systematic comprehensive project, involving strategy formulation, organization optimization, production and operation, scientific and technological innovation, information construction and other levels. The implementation process also involves important functional support such as capital investment, talent training and risk control. World class enterprises already have leading and mature experience in coping with climate change and realizing carbon neutralization path. Enterprises should consider carrying out improvement actions to implement “carbon peak” and “carbon neutralization” in key aspects such as goal formulation, strategy formulation, strategy implementation and operation management, scientific and technological innovation and digital management.
Finally, taking 3M, Lenovo, Yili and Bosch Group as examples, she shared the international case of realizing “carbon peak” and “carbon neutralization” with the participants.
