In response to Chinese President Xi Jinping’s call on a global biodiversity fund to facilitate the conservation in the post-2020 era, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) takes immediate actions through donation and mobilizing people’s participation to contribute to the Post 2020 Biodiversity Global Framework.
On October 13th, Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary-General of the CBCGDF, formally announced that the Beijing-based organization has set up the People’s Path to Kunming Biodiversity Fund.
CBCGDF’s delegation to the ongoing CBD COP15 Conference in Kunming told Elizabeth Maruma Mrema Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), “Through your excellency, we want to donate 1 million RMB to Kunming Biodiversity Fund as the first step to respond to President Xi’s call.”
By donating 1,000,000 RMB to the Fund, CBCGDF takes a very active step to echo the ecological civilization’s vision highlighted by the Chinese President Xi Jinping repeatedly – to ensure a co-existence between humans and nature. The national fund-raiser will also mobilize resources from all stakeholders. According to Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, the initiative has received very positive answers from companies, media, and even school students. Shortly after its announcement, a Beijing-based primary school,
Zhongguancun No.1 Primary School, asked CBCGDF to share with the kids “What Biodiversity is and Why it Matters”. The young children also offered that they would like to gather recyclable garbage to get money, although small sum, to express their enthusiasm in making a better world for all life.
