Biodiversity is not only about plants, animals, fungi, microorganisms and their ecosystems – it is also about humans themselves and their need for food security, medicines, fresh air and water, shelter – a clean and healthy living environment.
Despite ongoing efforts, biodiversity continues to deteriorate on a global scale. The United Nations Conference on Biodiversity will bring together the world’s governments to agree on new targets for conserving nature over the next decade through the Convention on Biological Diversity. Post 2020 global biodiversity framework sets out an ambitious plan to implement actions and transform society’s relationship with biodiversity. The ultimate goal is to ensure that by 2050, a shared vision of living in harmony with nature becomes a reality.
The souvenir sheet (stamps and margins) shows vertebrates, invertebrates, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, birds, fish, plants and microorganisms. The souvenir sheet was designed by Sergio Baradat (United Nations); printed by Carter Security Printing (France); and printed in a run of 48,000 sheets, each with a unique code.
