CBCGDF Asked by Many Experts and Volunteers to Follow up “The Second Information Publicity of Public Participation in Environmental Impact Assessment of Poyang Lake Water Conservancy Project in Jiangxi”

On May 9, 2022, a number of experts and volunteers contacted China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), asking CBBGDF to pay attention to the newly issued “The Second Information Publicity of Public Participation in Environmental Impact Assessment of Poyang Lake Water Conservancy Project in Jiangxi Province”.

“The Environmental Impact Assessment Law of the People’s Republic of China” aims to implement the sustainable development strategy, prevent the adverse impact on the environment after the implementation of construction projects, and promote the coordinated development of economy, society and environment. The law requires that the environmental impact assessment must be objective, open and fair, comprehensively consider the possible impact of the implementation of the construction project on various environmental factors and their ecosystems, and provide a scientific basis for decision-making. “Measures for Public Participation in Environmental Impact Assessment” issued by Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the PRC in 2018 pointed out that the public participation in environmental impact assessment is encouraged.

According to the notice released on the official website of Water Resources Department of Jiangxi Province, the deadline of publicly soliciting opinions is within 10 working days from May 9.

To implement the requirements of “The Environmental Impact Assessment Law of the People’s Republic of China” and “Measures for Public Participation in Environmental Impact Assessment” as well as “Opinions on Further Strengthening Biodiversity Conservation”, and in response to public concerns, CBCGDF now invites the public to make comments.
