Recently, Prof. Harris A. Lewin, the expert of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) received the 2021 Annual Beijing Science and Technology Award: the International Cooperation Zhongguancun Award.
Harris A. Lewin, is a Distinguished Professor of Evolution and Ecology, the University of California, Davis, the United States of America. His research interests are in comparative genomics and genome evolution, as well as their applications to agriculture, environmental science and medicine. Professor Lewin is a Foreign Member of the Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry, a Wolf Prize Laureate in Agriculture, and a member of the US National Academy of Sciences and the World Laureates Association (Shanghai). Since his first visit to China in 1995 as a guest of Beijing Agricultural University, Professor Lewin has developed innovative research collaborations with scientists in Beijing and throughout China, and has published high profile papers with Chinese researchers in Science, Nature, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, USA. With 23 others, including three Chinese scientists, he co-founded a “moonshot for biology” (the Earth BioGenome Project), which aims to sequence all eukaryotic life and to use that information to create a sustainable future for humankind. Professor Lewin serves as an expert to the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation based in Beijing, providing critical advice on the use of genomic information in China’s biodiversity conservation.
