To support World Water Day, on March 22, the Tobacco Control Group of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) and Beautiful Travel Pact jointly held a seminar on “Pollution of Tobacco to Water”, in order to promote smoking control in synergy with environmental protection. The seminar focused on three topics: pollution of cigarette butts, pollution of production sewage and overall environmental pollution.
Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary-General of CBCGDF, expressed his deep concern that tobacco pollution to water is a serious problem both at home and abroad, believing that awareness of the widespread environmental and human health impacts of microplastics in cigarette filters needed to be further enhanced and action taken accordingly.
Mr. Ma Yong, Deputy Secretary-General of CBCGDF, summarized from three aspects. Firstly, at the end of 2021, the World Health Organization announced that the theme of the global publicity campaign for World No Tobacco Day 2022 was “Tobacco: Threat to our environment”, and this event was in line with the theme.
Secondly, on World Water Day, we examined the impacts of tobacco on the environment from the perspective of its whole industrial chain on different aspects and brought the focus back to people.
Thirdly, in the future, we should not only pay attention to the impacts of traditional pollutants on the environment, but also pay more attention to new pollutants, so as to identify and solve problems.
The seminar was broadcast live and supported by CBCGDF Media and http://www.cnxk.com. Up to the time of publication, the seminar had a total of 13,000 views on the Internet.
