On June 17, 2024, Isa Habibbayli, President of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan visited China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), where the two sides held in-depth discussions on climate change, scientific and technological exchanges, cooperation in green development, and signed a strategic cooperation agreement.

Researcher Huang Wenjiang from the Aerospace Information Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences delivered a keynote speech at the conference, introducing his team’s research on global food security monitoring, pest and disease disaster risk prediction using remote sensing technology. In particular, he mentioned that major natural disasters could significantly impact biodiversity and that the technology could be effectively prevented and controlled through international cooperation and global monitoring.
Huang Wenjiang showed some monitoring results, mentioning the importance of locust plague monitoring for the grassland ecosystem in Azerbaijan, and emphasized that these techniques have been applied and reduced the use of pesticides and fertilizers in Azerbaijan.
In addition, Dr. Huang also introduced other aspects covered by his research, including fire monitoring, monitoring of grassland growth, monitoring of biodiversity impacts due to climate change, and monitoring of carbon emissions from the energy and fossil fuel industries. Finally, he expressed his expectations for future cooperation. He hoped to further deepen cooperation with the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences through scientific and technological projects and personnel exchanges to jointly address climate change.
