During the Fishing Ban Period, CBCGDF Volunteers Carried out Fishery Protection Operations in the Songhua River

On June 12, 2024, volunteers from the Suihua Wetland Reserve of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) and the Suihua Zhaodong Fishery Law Enforcement Brigade formed a 10-member patrol team to carry out fishery protection work in the Zhaodong section of the Songhua River.

The patrol team drove 10 kilometers and cleared 83 illegal fishing nets and 6 sling nets, which were destroyed on site. The fish rescued and released during this patrol included carp, crucian carp, catfish, tooth fish, oxtail fish, bighead carp, loach, etc.

In addition, the patrol team also carried out legal education on site, hoping to let more people understand relevant regulations such as prohibiting the capture of wild animals during the fishing ban period and prohibiting the use of illegal nets to capture fish.

The volunteers called on anglers to strictly abide by the regulations during the fishing ban period. At the same time, they hoped that the relevant departments of the local government would introduce relevant systems to clearly prohibit behaviors such as one person using multiple rods or one rod having multiple hooks, and regulate the behavior of anglers in order to protect Suihua City’s fishery resources and safeguard the river’s ecological environment.
