Recently, the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) received a letter from the Secretariat of Basel Rotterdam Stockholm (BRS) inviting them to attend the briefing of the 14th meeting of the Open-ended Working Group of the Basel Convention. CBCGDF was invited to participate in the online briefing of the 14th meeting of the Open-ended Working Group of the Basel Convention. According to the meeting briefing, the OEWG meeting, which will last from June 25 to June 28, will be about strategic issues, encompassing the strategic framework as well as improving the functioning of the PIC procedure; the contact group will meet in the evening of the second day of the meeting and on the third day. Relevant technical and legal matters would then be addressed, with related work on international cooperation as the final discussion.
The meeting will serve as a midterm review of intersessional work, at which progress and discussions on work on strategic, technical and legal matters under the Basel Convention will take place; progress on work and discussions on strategic and legal matters under the Basel Convention that will inform the seventeenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties; and the adoption of decisions on more substantive issues; in addition to a call for information following the meeting.
