June 18, 2024 is the 32nd day of the fishing ban. Volunteers from the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) Wetland Conservation Area(CCAfa) in Suihua City, Heilongjiang Province carried out patrol work in the waters near Fengnong Reservoir in Bayan County, Harbin City. A total of 2 vehicles and 6 volunteers participated in the patrol, covering a distance of 60 kilometers, patrolling 5 kilometers of rivers, clearing 34 ground cage nets, 4 gown nets, and 6 Xuan nets, and rescuing more than 100 kilograms of fish; during the patrol, 8 illegal fishermen were dissuaded and 20 people were exposed to legal publicity.
During the patrol, due to the high sand content and turbid water in some sections of the river, the CBCGDF volunteers went down to the river to clean up. Almost every ground cage net that was cleaned was more than 20 meters long, and it was pulled out bit by bit by manpower.
The CBCGDF volunteers found many people fishing by the reservoir. These fishermen left a lot of garbage by the water, which seriously affected the local environment. Although the local law enforcement department patrolled the area twice a day and restricted these dangerous and environmentally destructive behaviors, the area returned to its original state after the law enforcement officers left. Here, the CBCGDF volunteers call on the public to take away the garbage after fishing and do not fish illegally.
