In Gaoyou city, Jiangsu province, local people like Oriental White Storks very much. Around 2020, Gaoyou Power Supply Company and China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) established the second CBCGDF Oriental White Stork Conservation Area(CCAfa167) in China, with a small square at the head of Jieshou Town where Oriental White Storks can be easily observed. In the following three years, Gaoyou Power Supply Company, in conjunction with the CBCGDF CCAfa167, jointly implemented a series of “Migratory Bird Lifeline” projects for protection, which achieved good social impact in the local area.
In order to further protect the Oriental White Stork Gaoyou Power Supply Company, Gaoyou Forestry Department, Municipal Natural Resources and Planning Bureau, etc. have always maintained good interaction and made many efforts together for local wild animals, led by white storks. In 2022, under the promotion of Gaoyou Power Supply Company, Gaoyou Municipal People’s Government issued the “Measures for Strengthening the Construction and Management of Oriental White Stork Conservation Area in Gaoyou” specifically for the CBCGDF CCAfa167; in early 2024, Gaoyou Natural Resources and Planning Bureau once again issued the “Implementation Measures for Rewarding the Rescue of Terrestrial Wildlife and Reporting Illegal Behaviors” ( “Measures”) for Gaoyou City to promote the protection of wild animals in the city, including Oriental white storks.
This newly issued “Measures” stipulates that any citizen, legal person or other organization that rescues terrestrial wild animals in Gaoyou City, or discovers illegal acts that damage terrestrial wild animal resources, should promptly report to the department responsible for supervision; after verification, if the rescue or reporting behavior is true, it will be rewarded, with the highest reward being 5,000 yuan. After the promulgation of the “Measures”, it will be valid for 5 years.
