Effective sustainable and ESG (environmental, social and governance) reporting should be guided by the following principles: assessment by a third party; conducted by a technical body or expert with relevant expertise, especially in the fields of biodiversity and climate science; and based on scientific research and data analysis to ensure its accuracy and reliability.

There are limitations to the current practice of using the Green Business Directory or the Green Project Directory to label green projects, for example, photovoltaic projects built on bird migration paths may damage the environment. Therefore, scientific and systematic research and comprehensive assessment are needed, rather than simply judging the greenness of a project based on a catalogue.
