Navigating Sustainability with Carlos Alvarez Pereira and Expert Voices: the 15th Melodious Deer Chirping—CBCGDF Expert Interview Held in Beijing By CBCGDF-BioGreen

On April 26, 2024, the 15th edition of “Melodious Deer Chirping—CBCGDF Expert Interview” by international journal of “Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development” (referred to as “BioGreen”) of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) was successfully held in Beijing. Esteemed experts gathered to delve into the role and challenges of science in promoting sustainable development. 

The distinguished guests in attendance included Prof. Carlos Alvarez Pereira, Secretary-General of the Club of Rome; Professor Vesna Vucinic Neskovic from the Department of Ethnology and Anthropology at the University of Belgrade, Serbia; Dr. Marta Nešković, a Research Associate specializing in ethnology and anthropology at the Institute for Political Studies in Belgrade; and Ms. Hanyuan (Karen) Wang, CEO and Founder of Climind.

During the discussion, the experts thoroughly explored the challenges facing the implementation of the United Nations International Decade of Science for Sustainable Development (2024-2033) and proposed solutions. They emphasized the indispensable role of science in addressing pressing environmental issues and societal needs, advocating for its greater involvement in the path towards sustainable development. Delving into the roles of science and the potential contributions of artificial intelligence (AI) in future development, they exchanged insights on bridging gaps to ensure effective progress.

The dialogue attracted an audience of 1400 participants from diverse backgrounds, witnessed the fruitful discussions on the pivotal role of science in advancing sustainable development goals.

The event serves as a platform to address the intricate challenges posed by climate emergencies, biodiversity loss, and global health crises, emphasizing the indispensable role of science in fostering sustainable coexistence between humanity and the planet. With the United Nations Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development 2024-2033 as its backdrop, the gathering aims to heighten awareness of the significance of all sciences in driving sustainable development. It advocates for coordinated, evidence-based approaches to policymaking, tailored to national priorities, to ensure that progress is inclusive and leaves no one behind.
