The China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) and the Globalization and Development (GAD) Program of the Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (BNU-HKBU UIC) jointly initiated the “Talent Cultivation Program for Sustainable Development”.

On May 2, 2024, in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, the students from the program shared their research results on international plastic governance at the Campus Open Day.
They introduced the background, research motivation and professional guidance of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment (INC). They elaborated on the research methodology and conclusions, emphasizing the study of plastics governance from three aspects including industrial economy, political legislation and emerging technologies.
They also thanked the CBCGDF and the academic journal BioGreen – Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development for their support.
They pointed out that ignoring the long-term impacts of plastic pollution can have huge external costs and called attention to the latest developments in global plastic governance. The INC-5 will be held in Busan, South Korea, in November 2024 to finalize the international legal instrument on plastic pollution.
