On a Zibo barbecue trip on May 18, the author on the return trip by K702 train back to Jinan, of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) staff experienced an extremely unpleasant experience. Because the train is overcrowded and many passengers are without seats, the carriages smell smoke, almost every car in connection with the passengers in the smoke. However, the staff did not stop.

The author calls on the Railway Law, which is under revision, to add a no-smoking provision in trains to protect passengers’ environmental rights and the right to health, and urges railroad operators to learn from the tobacco control environmental public interest litigation case and to actively take measures to improve the air quality in the train to ensure the physical and mental health of passengers.
