The BBNJ Agreement, better known as the High Seas Treaty, is an international agreement on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction. The high seas refers to the open ocean areas beyond territorial waters and exclusive economic zones of any given country.
On April 5, 2024, Sara Platto, secretary-general of the Biology and Science Ethics (BASE) Working Committee of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation(CBCGDF), professor of animal behavior and welfare at the College of Life Sciences at Jianghan University was interviewed by the China Global Television Network(CGTN).She shares why the High Seas Treaty is significant for protecting marine biodiversity.
Dr. Sara Platto, Italian, Secretary-General of the CBCGDF BASE and Chief Scientist of Wildlife Rescue Expert Group, professor of Jianghan University. Mainly engaged in animal behavior, animal welfare and related work in the field of veterinary medicine, she has been staying in Wuhan during the COVID-19 epidemic, she has made great contributions to spreading the good story of China, promoting China and Europe to join hands in fighting the epidemic, and promoting China’s anti-epidemic achievements internationally, and was nominated for the “Chinese Government Friendship Award”.
