On April 12, 2024, the Department of Science and Technology of Henan Province issued a notice on the solicitation of public opinions on the “Measures for Science and Technology Rewards in Henan (Draft for Comments)” , and China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) responded positively to the call, and after careful study, believing that “gender equality” shall be as crucial principle for assessment.
To be more precise, it is suggested that ‘gender equality’ be included in the principles of reviewing and evaluating scientific and technological awards in Henan Province.
[Reason] In contemporary society, there is an urgent need to promote gender equality in the field of science and technology innovation. Scientific and technological innovation is an important driving force for national development and social progress, and it is necessary to give full play to the role of both men and women in scientific and technological innovation. The inclusion of ‘gender equality’ in the selection principles will help break down gender barriers, encourage more women to join the cause of scientific and technological innovation, and inject new vitality into the field of scientific and technological innovation. The inclusion of ‘gender equality’ will help to highlight social justice in the field of scientific research, create a social atmosphere that respects women and values their achievements in science and technology, and promote joint development between men and women.
