Over 10 Tigers Raised to Death, Many Other Wild Animals Also Died Abnormally |CBCGDF PaysAttention to the Unlicensed Tiger Breeding Incident in Anhui

On April 25, 2024, the Legal Working Committee of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) received a call from a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. He reported that there were animal management problems in a designated assistance area in a certain district in Fuyang City, Anhui, and consulted on management issues at a zoo in the district.

The member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference left the contact information of a person in charge of the Fuyang Forestry Bureau, hoping that colleagues from the CBCGDF Legal Working Committee could call back the Fuyang Forestry Bureau and provide professional guidance.

Subsequently, the CBCGDF Legal Committee communicated with the person in charge of the Fuyang Forestry Bureau regarding matters related to a company in Anhui that had raised more than 10 Siberian tigers to death without obtaining a license for artificial breeding of wild animals.

It is understood that: 1. The Siberian tiger belongs to a company in Fuyang, not a company in Anhui. Initially, the Siberian tiger was fostered in a company in Anhui. Due to a dispute between the two companies, the Siberian tiger’s fostering contract has been terminated in 2022. At present, a company in Fuyang illegally occupies the place of a company in Anhui to domesticate and breed Siberian tigers; 2. Regarding the deaths of Siberian tigers, it began to occur one after another in 2017. Some adult tigers died because of their old age, and cubs died due to those who died due to illness are still there and are being preserved by a company in Fuyang. 3. Regarding the current rescue of Siberian tigers, a person in charge of Fuyang Forestry Bureau responded that they are coordinating.

In the letter sent to the Anhui Provincial Forestry Bureau, the CBCGDF Legal Working Committee asked relevant requirements for government information disclosure applications to the Anhui Provincial Forestry Bureau. The CBCGDF media will continue to follow up on the progress of resolving this issue and make it public.
