According to the message sent by the delegation of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) currently participating in the meeting in Nairobi, the second session of the 15th Conference Of the Parties (COP 15)to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) will be held from December 5th to 17th, 2022 at the CBD headquarters in Montreal, where the CBD secretariat is located. China remains the presidency.

The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China stated on June 20 that the first session of the fifteenth Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP15) was successfully held in October last year, providing a political impetus for global biodiversity governance. Affected by the global spread of the COVID-19, the second session of the conference had to be postponed. At present, China is negotiating with the Secretariat and Bureau of the Convention on Biological Diversity on the date of the second session. China will continue to perform its presidency duties, work with all parties to determine the date and venue of the second session of the conference, and actively carry out preparatory work according to the epidemic situation to ensure the safe and successful holding of the second session of the conference, and promote global biodiversity governance to a new level.

In this regard, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary-General of CBCGDF, said: “I hope to finalize the Post 2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) as soon as possible, I think this is a good plan proposed by China, and I believe it can get everyone’s support. In reality, under the conditions of the conference, this scheme provides the greatest convenience for the majority of participants, including parties to the Conventions and all stakeholders. This scheme has laid the foundation for the early launch of GBF.”
